No one is born with the natural ability to cook like a professional. Even the most brilliant chefs out there had to learn the proper techniques to boiling an egg. The process of learning how to cook well can be an educational and exciting one, so enjoy the little mistakes here and there. When beginning your cooking experience, there are several great starter tips that can help you move on to professional levels.

When you are cooking pies, pastries, and crusts, cook them a little longer than you would normal do so. Although you might be a little afraid that you are going to mess up and burn the whole thing, you can actually really improve the crustiness of those foods by letting them get brown instead of just a little tan.

When you are cooking meats, let them sit and stew for a while instead of just baking them right away. No one enjoys eating hard meats that have no juice in them. You need to make sure that you are letting them sit there for a long enough time to build up a lot of juice and flavor. The best thing to do is just make sure that you give yourself hours and hours to let meat cook. The meat will be nice and juicy and soft by that time.

Add final bits of flavor to the meats. Spices are a great way to really get a meal tasting well. There are all types of unusual spices out there for you to experiment with. A great suggestion to getting a pantry stocked with spices is to buy a new interesting bottle each time you go to the supermarket. Use that new spice that night when preparing a meal to start understanding what you should pair it with. You can also add some lemon, vinegar, mangosteen juice, or other citrus flavors to just about any meal out there to give it a little extra zing.

Lastly, cookbooks are not always the best route to go. They are great for giving you ideas and general guidelines, but don’t always take the times in them seriously. Ovens are totally different, so sometimes times are way off. Trust descriptive words in the book over the actual times. If the meal calls for cooking it until golden brown, then wait until the meal is golden brown, not just when the timer goes off. You will also learn how to experiment and create new masterpieces if you just go with your instinct over the words on a page. Don’t be afraid to change the recipe a bit to match your diet or health expectations. Switch out a sugary juice in a recipe for healthy mangosteen juice. Cut back on the sugar or fats in a recipe by adding apple sauce or agave nectar to sweeten the meal. Changing up recipes is how people create new ones in the first place.

When looking for a place to eat out, there are several options. First, there’s the type of food- Italian, American, Chinese, Mexican, and the list can go on. Once you have figured out what nationality you want to eat, next is finding the right restaurant for you. Here are some different types of Chinese Food in Windsor to help you narrow down the choices if you’re in the mood for Chinese.

Americanized Chinese Food- Some of your Chinese favorites are actually Americanized Chinese- where a Chinese chef thought about what an American would want. Sweet and sour chicken, General Tso’s Chicken, and most cabbage based egg rolls are Americanized versions of authentic Chinese food. Even though it isn’t authentic, it can still be very tasty.

Northern Chinese Food- This is your shanghai style cuisine. A big component of Northern Chinese food is wheat flour. Instead of using rice noodles or egg noodles, the noodles are flour-based. Soup dumplings are very popular in Northern Chinese food and either have pork or beef inside the thinly wrapped dumpling. Vinegar is used almost as often as soy sauce, and you can usually find a vinegar and soy combination sauce on the menu.

Inland Chinese Food- Szechuan is your basic inland Chinese food, and it is usually spicier than other Chinese foods. This is also a heavier and heartier type of meal. Most meals consist of smaller pieces of meat and vegetables to put on top of rice, and appeal to the palates of many people. Kung Pau chicken is a great example of a Szechuan type meal- lots of finely chopped pieces of meat and vegetables, stir fried in a hearty sauce and put on top of white rice.

Southern Chinese- These are your Cantonese dishes. This type of Chinese cuisine emphasizes the use of fresh ingredients, and salt instead of soy sauce. Cantonese food is usually more expensive because of this emphasis on fresh ingredients. Most Southern Chinese restaurants will have a fish tank as you enter- not for decoration, but as potential meals for that evening. It is not as spicy as your typical inland Chinese food. Dim sum is a great example of Southern Chinese cuisine.

When looking for good Chinese food in Windsor, it is important to keep an open mind. Make sure you try multiple restaurants before picking a ‘favorite.’ You might find that there are several restaurants that fit to your liking. Also, some hole in the wall restaurants can be good, but some can be terrible. Make sure you open your mind to some of the classier Chinese restaurants that have excellent food to choose from.

There are not many traditions that nearly every country shares. Certain countries celebrate special holidays and others don traditional clothing unique to their own heritage. One thing that almost every country shares, however, is its love for wine. Countries from France to Chile specialize in their own unique wines, making this age-old drink something very interesting to learn about.

There are countless types of wine out there, but every single type falls into one of these six categories: red wine, white wine, sparkling wine, rose wine, fortified wine, and dessert wine.

Red wine is the most popular type of wine around the world, and it is what comes to mind first when wine is brought up. Red wine in Cincinnati is created by using red or black grapes, but it varies greatly depending on the type of grape, the process, and the region in which it is made. Popular varieties of red wine include cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir, shiraz, and zinfandel.

White wine is made using white grapes. Although all white wines differ greatly like with red wines, white wine tends to have less body when compared to red wines as a whole. This lighter flavor makes white wines better when paired with light foods, such as pasta, fish, fruit, and salad. Popular types of white wine include chardonnay, pinot grigio, sauvignon blanc, and reisling.

Sparkling wine mostly refers to champagne, which is a fizzy wine that is made from many different types of white grapes. The fizz that makes sparkling wine unique comes from the carbon dioxide that forms during the fermentation process. True champagne only comes from one region of the world. An area in France called Champagne made this bubbly wine popular. When bubbly wine is created in other areas of the world, such as the United States, it is simply called sparkling wine.

Rose wine is made with red grapes, but it differs from red wine because the color and flavor is less intense. Rose wine in Cincinnati is sometimes made by discarding the deep red grape skins quickly or by mixing together red and white wines. The most popular type of rose wine is white zinfandel, which comes from a certain area in California.

Fortified wine refers to wines that are higher in alcohol content as compared to traditional wine. Sherry, Port, Madeira, and Marsala are the most popular types of port wine around the world. These wines have very distinct and intense flavors, and they are often times used for cooking.

Lastly, dessert wines are created by using grapes that have ripened longer on the vine. The riper the grape, the sweeter the flavor. Dessert wines are typically consumed after a meal because of their intense sugary flavors. The most well-know dessert wine is Sauternes, which comes from France.

Mediterranean cuisine has long since held the rest of the world in fascination due to the various arrays of flavors that it offers that make it very appealing to both to the diner’s eyes and taste buds. Some even say that you are not truly a man of the world unless you have partaken of the wonders of Mediterranean cooking. This could be the reason that many people tend to flock to a Greek restaurant in Vancouver.

Known for its wide use of ingredients such as vegetable and herbs, wine, fish, bread and grains, poultry, various meats including pork and rabbit, Mediterranean cuisine can probably be best determined due to it abundant use of olive oil which gives many of its dishes such a distinct taste and texture. And since their cooking is dated back to the early years, many people want to experience how the recipes were carried on from generation to generation until it has reached these modern times.

Since not many people have the luxury to travel right into the place where the cuisine originated, many of them find alternative ways on how they can taste such distinct cooking through the presence of many food establishment that cater to such way of preparing food. However, since there have been a number of establishments that have been offering this type of service around, knowing how to choose the best one is essential for you to enjoy the experience.

Checking out the reputation of the diner that you will be going to is always a very practical step to make before setting out. Since it would be your first time to go to such a place, you would like to make sure that you will be able to enjoy whatever they have to offer. Hence, asking around is always a good thing to do to determine if they are really as good as they say.

There are surely several types of food items that you would like to try, so before coming to any Greek restaurant in Vancouver, it is also essential that you check out the menu that they provide first. If there is a particular item that you have been wanting to try, make sure that the item is in their menu to save yourself from any unnecessary disappointment later.

You will also need to look into the venue where they are operating. Most of the time, these establishments are located in places where a lot of people frequent to so as to gather better sales of their services. However, there are those who also have their establishment situated somewhere a little far from the usual hustle and bustle of city living. Hence, choose the location depending on your preference or the people that you will be going with.

Ambiance and the overall atmosphere of the place is also something that you will need to check on. If you are going out with friends, booking a place that is too stiff and formal may not be a good idea. And if you are going out with a date or with someone special, a place that is too rowdy may not be that pleasant.

To people who may not have that much luxury to spend with the items that are present on the menu, the price is also a very important thing to consider. Many times a Greek restaurant in Vancouver will offer their delicacies at such affordable prices. However, if you would like to be sure about it before setting out, verifying the information by giving them a call is also a good idea.

Meet Edward Eco-Cow. He belongs to a heard of natural beef cattle on a large farm in Idaho. From the day he was born he has been fed a 100% vegetarian diet. His sleek black coat shines with the nutrients he gets from eating healthily. Well, it shines until he plays in the dirt with his friends. While he looks forward to the tasty food he gets twice a day back at the barn, most the time he enjoys grazing in the field.

This is the only life Edward has ever known, or ever will known. When he was a young steer, back before he was weaned, his mother would tell him stories of other farms. He always thought they were fairy tales, or stories told to scare him. “You had better behave or Boggs the butcher will come and take you away!” The tactics worked and Edward was always obedient and did as his mother asked. When he was old enough to go exploring on his own he had lost belief in such foolish notions. Surely fast food restaurants were a story made up to scare young calves, they couldn’t really exist.

He knew that one day his happy life would come to an end and he would go to the graze in the great beyond. His mother Betsy Bovine had explained everything to him. One day someone would come along and quickly, painlessly he would pass on. Then his meat would go on to help feed many humans and make them happy and healthy. He was ok with this sacrifice; the humans were the ones who brought him tasty grain and hay. He was happy to help.

One day Edward was grazing along the fence line and met one of the neighbors. He was shocked by what Stan McSteer told him.

“Wow Stan, I have never seen a steer that looks so strong! Are you really three months younger than me and this much bigger?”

“Well Ed, I’ll let you in on a secret. Over at my farm, we have some special stuff. Our food may not taste as good as yours, and it may not help us live an active lifestyle, but between steroids and hormones we really know how to bulk up.”

“I don’t understand. You can’t possibly get enough exercise with that little field as tightly packed as it is. I can see your barn right over there; do you have another field nearby?”

“We are well enough off. We don’t need to work out. We won’t be around too long; if we are all crammed in here we get to know each other really well and get big and fat together.”

“Can you really be happy living like that?”

“I’ve never known anything different. Occasionally I grab a bite of the food you get to enjoy over the fence. Someone called it vegetarian. What does that mean?”

“Well Stan, it means that all of our food is from grass, grains, fruits, vegetables and other natural foods. Isn’t that what you eat?”

“Nope, besides the hormones we occasionally get other stuff put in to help us grow faster. Like I said, over here, we live to eat so we can die to be eaten at fast food chains. It’s not much, but it’s a life.”

“You mean those places are real? Mass produced meat to be slathered in grease and often wasted instead of carefully taken care of to bring out the natural scrumptious flavor?”

“You got it. Well, it’s time for me to go get my hormone enhanced dinner. I’ll catch ya later Ed.”

Edward went home that night in a contemplative mood. He had learned some interesting things and was grateful to be part of a natural beef herd; Edward EcoCow went slept peacefully that night, knowing that the grass was indeed greener on his side of the fence.
